Children's Learning Center

In the early 1990's, a group of concerned parents and educators gathered to discuss the need for a special kind of learning center for young children. The center would serve as a model, state-of-the-art early learning center for students and faculty in a variety of disciplines. After eight years of dreaming, planning and constructing, the Children's Learning Center at Samford University is now a reality. Opened on July 1, 1998, the center is nestled in a clearing in the woods adjacent to the main Samford campus on South Lakeshore Drive (between Homewood High School and the Homewood Armory). A number of important features define the Children's Learning Center. These include:
  • an award winning facility,
  • a unique child: adult interaction plan, with a low teacher to child ratio,
  • a process for addressing inclusive education, and
  • a developmentally appropriate curriculum focusing on learning and creative arts.
