Dr. Jeanie A. Box serves as Dean of the Orlean Bullard Beeson School of Education and Professional Studies at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama.

Dr. Box received her B.S. degree from Auburn University, where she majored in early childhood education, and her M.S., Eds., and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, also in early childhood education. Previously she taught kindergarten and first grade in the Birmingham City School System and also taught in France one previous summer.

Dr. Box received the George Macon Teaching Award at Samford University in 1992 and the Outstanding Alumni Early Childhood Education Award from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Education in May of 1997.


Charles D. (Chuck) Sands IV, Ph.D.

Dr. Charles D. (Chuck) Sands IV serves as the Associate Dean in the Orlean Bullard Beeson School of Education and Professional Studies, and as an Associate Professor in the Department of Exercise Science and Sports Medicine Department.

Dr. Sands is a graduate of Samford University (B.S., ‘93) and the University of Alabama at Birmingham (M.A. - Education, ’95; Ph.D.- Public Health, ‘04). His primary areas of teaching and research interest are health behaviors related to cardiovascular morbidity and mortality, and childhood obesity. Additionally, Sands is a member of several state (AlPHA, ASAHPERD) and national organizations (ACSM, APHA) and he presents regularly at local, regional and national meetings.

Dr. Sands received the Samford University Buchannan Award for Teaching Excellence in 2006 and he was also voted the Alabama Health Educator of the Year in 2005.
