On January 25, 2008, Samford hosted the 7th Annual Southeast Regional Approved Supervisor's Workshop for Family Studies. The workshop provides a way for family therapy supervisors to further their education, a requirement for keeping their license. The conference employs different methods each year, with this year consisting of an observation of a live supervision group. This was the fifth consecutive year that the workshop has met at Samford. Family Studies professor Jonathan Davis attributed this to Samford’s “strong clinical background,” in addition to the central location of Birmingham and ease of congestion brought by Jan Term when fewer students are on campus. Davis also said that the opportunity was good for him and Samford because it allowed them to connect even more with other supervisor’s and the community as a whole.
