Exercise Science and Sports Medicine majors recently traveled to Fairfield, Ala to administer health assessments to Restoration Academy students. The Samford students, consisting mainly of Seniors, went to Fairfield because the population in that area tends to have a higher health risk as it ages. Department Chair Dr. Alan Jung said another influencing factor was Restoration’s mission. The school was founded by a pastor who wanted to help at-risk youth. “It’s a really amazing facility and we want to be a part of that,” Jung said. The ESSM faculty will teach a health course every other week at the academy, and perform another assessment at the end of the semester.
